Feelings check in: finding the care you need, woman to woman.

By Women, For Women: Why ThriVe Gets What You’re Going Through

Ladies, I know. When you’re dealing with something as big as an unplanned pregnancy or worrying about STIs, you want to talk to someone who really gets it. Is a sterile-looking clinic not the vibe you’re looking for? When we’re faced with things affecting our reproductive health and future, it really helps to talk to someone who cares. You want to be more than just a patient, just a number.

She found a woman doctor who provided excellent care.

That’s where ThriVe comes in. We believe that being able to open up with your healthcare provider is key. Every woman deserves to feel safe and supported. And let’s be real—sometimes it’s just easier when the person on the other side of that conversation is another woman who’s been there, done that, and knows what you’re going through.

We can’t always have a woman doctor for every exam in life, but at ThriVe, our services are by women, for women. Our medical staff and patient advocates are non-judgmental and compassionate. So in those moments, when you’re wondering if you’re pregnant, if you might have an STD (sexually transmitted disease), or need to make a big decision for your pregnancy, you have a place to go.

Why Women Get It

Talking about stuff like your body, birth control, a yearly breast exam, pregnancy choices, or STI concerns can feel tough. Many women feel stressed over things like this. You have goals for your future. And you want to make sure your health decisions align with your goals and future! It’s only natural to feel overwhelmed when unplanned problems come up. So whether you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy or a potential STI (sexually transmitted infection), we get why it’s tough.

But, talking to another woman can make all the difference. Whether it’s worrying about STI symptoms or trying to decide what to do about a pregnancy you didn’t plan for, it just makes sense. There’s this shared understanding between women that feels comforting, like they just know what’s up. Our women’s advocates at ThriVe are here to do just that —to listen to you and educate you on all the pregnancy choices. Because everyone needs to be seen and heard. And if you’ve got questions about your cycle, body, or other women’s health concerns — ThriVe’s blog section is a great resource!

Feelings Check-In When You’re Nervous About An Appointment:

So if you’re feeling stressed about your upcoming pelvic exam, take a sec to stop and reflect, because what you’re thinking matters. If you feel inclined, you’re invited to write these down in a journal and do a brain dump.

– Have you ever felt like you couldn’t really open up to a doctor (whether it was a primary care physician, for a gynecologic exam, or with some other medical professional)? Maybe the doctor recommended contraception, but you felt uneasy. In any of these situations, what made you feel that way?

– Does the idea of talking to a female physician make you feel more at ease? Why or why not?

– How would it feel to know you’re understood by someone who’s been through some of the same stuff as you?

Trust and Comfort Are Everything

When you’re feeling confused or overwhelmed, trust is so crucial. You need someone who listens to you, really hears you, and gives you information that’s coming from a place of genuine(and accurate!) understanding. For a lot of women, that’s a female medical professional. It just feels different when they get it because they’ve been there, too. Don’t get me wrong- there are lots of well-qualified male doctors. But fellow women have a special understanding of what it’s like to go through a miscarriage, or an unplanned pregnancy, or an abortion. Here at ThriVe, we’ve been there. And understanding is key to empowerment.

When we’re talking about our health, vulnerability is huge. It’s part of any kind of pelvic exam, especially an STI screening or vaginal ultrasound. Being comfortable during those moments can make a world of difference. For some of us, having a female specialist there makes it all feel a little less intimidating, like we’re not as exposed. It’s just… safer, you know?

Feelings Check-In When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed:

Time for another brain dump. This time, think about why it’s important to be able to trust a medical professional. Take a look at these questions and see how you’re feeling.

– Have you ever felt uncomfortable during a health exam? What would make it better for you in the future?

– How important is trust when you’re choosing a specialist? Do you think a female provider could make a difference?

– How does the idea of someone truly understanding your specific concerns make you feel?

Feelings Check-In About Being Heard and Safe:

Got time for one last brain dump? It’s helpful to write out what you’re thinking. It’ll help you know what step could come next for you.

– How important is it for you to have a specialist who really listens and shows compassion?

– Do you feel confident asking for the kind of care that makes you feel safe and comfortable?

– How would it feel knowing there’s a place like ThriVe where you can get the help you need, without worrying about the cost?
