The abortion “pill” is a two-step regimen, sometimes referred to as a chemical abortion, medication abortion, or DIY abortion.
Step one is to take the drug mifepristone (RU486) or also known as Mifeprex.
Step two uses the drug misoprostol, also known as Cytotec usually taken 24-48 hours after taking Mifeprex.

It is important to know how far along the pregnancy is before taking the abortion pill, and ultrasound is the most reliable way to determine this. Additionally, ultrasound is the only way to confirm you do not have an ectopic pregnancy. Mifeprex is not effective in terminating an ectopic pregnancy (1).
All ultrasounds are performed by licensed medical professionals. You will be referred to a local hospital if further evaluation is needed.
