Do I need STI testing if I don’t have symptoms?

Do you really need a same day STI test? Hey there! I know talking about sexually transmitted infections (STIs, also called sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs) can be a bit uncomfortable, but it’s super important for your health. And your health matters. Whatever stage in life you’re in, you’re valuable. Getting tested for STDs is really just safe care when it comes down to it. Whether you’re pregnant or have been sexually active, this health screening is something you shouldn’t overlook.

Even if you’re considering abortion, you still need to get tested. Your health and safety have to take the front seat.

But what’s it like to get a same day STD test or a test sent to the lab? Well, at ThriVe+, we prioritize your comfort. We’re a safe space for women. That’s why we’re here to explain what it’s like so you’ll know what to expect. You deserve to be informed and confident. Oh, did I mention that all of our screenings are no-cost? You don’t need insurance and there won’t be any payment. Why? You matter. Cost shouldn’t come between you and good health.

So, let’s dive into why this matters and what you can expect from STD testing at ThriVe+.

Do I need an STI screening if I’m pregnant?

Have you gotten a positive pregnancy test or a missed period? I’m glad you’re here. Your questions, worries, and concerns are welcome here. I get that you probably have mixed emotions, especially if this wasn’t part of your plan. Please, whatever decision you’re considering, come for an STI screening at ThriVe+. Our clinic is super friendly and down to earth. We’ve been through it. We’re a safe place.

Here at ThriVe+, we send the samples from STD screenings to the lab for analysis. This gives you comprehensive, accurate results — and quick answers within a few  days.

Our services are designed to support you, especially during an unplanned pregnancy. Lots of women have been in similar situations. You have nothing to feel shame about. In fact, we think you’re brave for being here. You’re beautiful, smart, and capable. You have what it takes to get through this, and to make the best decision for your health and future. So why should you pursue a screening (whether it’s sent to a lab or a same day STI test) when you’re pregnant? Here’s why.

– Your health: What if you don’t get treated or tested? Untreated STDs can lead to long-term health problems for you. That could mean chronic pain or even infertility.1 Aside from no-cost STI screenings, we also offer pre-abortion screenings (also at no-cost). We can help get your health taken care of and talk about what options are available for you, specifically.

– Passing an STI to your baby: If you decide to continue the pregnancy, some infections can be passed from you to your baby during pregnancy or birth.1 That can lead to serious health issues.

– Pregnancy complications: Untreated STIs can cause problems like preterm labor, stillbirth, and infections in newborns.2 Some STDs can be easily cured if they’re caught early on.2 Please take care of yourself during every stage, no matter what path you choose. We can provide treatment as well — at no cost!

That’s why healthcare providers recommend getting  screened for STDs as part of your prenatal care, even if you don’t have any symptoms.1 Thinking about abortion? Getting screened for sexually transmitted infections is part of pre-abortion care. You’ve got to take care of your health at every stage. You’re worth it.

Is a same day STI test better than a lab test?

Why should I get tested if I’ve had sex in the past?

Have you ever been sexually active? Even if it’s been a while since you’ve been intimate with someone or you feel perfectly fine, testing is still important. If you’ve had any sexual contact with someone, even if it was a long time ago, you could be at risk.1 Your future is worth it. Getting tested is nothing to feel shame about. Remember, it’s self care. Here’s why you should schedule your test at ThriVe+:

– Silent infections: Many of these infections don’t show any symptoms.1 So you might not even know you have one. I’m not trying to freak you out. I just want you to be aware, so you can be informed and get tested.

– Long-term health: Untreated STDs can lead to chronic pain, infertility, and a higher risk of getting other sexually transmitted infections.1

– Preventing spread: You don’t want to unknowingly pass an infection to your partner. Even if a past partner has seemed healthy, you can never be sure until you’re tested for STDs. When you’re ready to have sex in that long term, committed, monogamous relationship, you’ll be able to enjoy that relationship with confidence.

Testing is especially important if you’ve had multiple partners, a new partner, or if your partner has had other partners. Catching an infection early means you can get treated before it causes serious problems. Time is of the essence. Your future is important. You deserve great health and confidence. That’s why you should get an STI screening, period!

What kind of STI test do I need?

The type of screening (and whether it’s a lab or a quick test) you need can depend on your risk factors and health history. You don’t need to know what kind of STI you might have before you come in, don’t worry. We’ll help you figure out what’s going on, if anything. Here are the common STIs we test for (at no-cost) at ThriVe+:

Gonorrhea: This bacterial infection often doesn’t have symptoms. But when it does, you might experience painful urination, abnormal discharge, or bleeding between periods. We usually test for it with a urinalysis or vaginal swab.3, 4

Chlamydia: Another bacterial infection that’s often silent.5 Symptoms can include pain during sex, discharge, or burning during urination. It’s also tested with a urine sample or swab of your vagina, throat, or rectum.6

Syphilis: This bacterial infection can show up as sores on your genitals, rectum, or mouth. Later stages can cause rashes, organ damage, and other serious health issues. It’s typically checked with a blood test.7, 8

HIV: This virus affects your immune system and can lead to AIDS if untreated. Early symptoms might resemble the flu, but many people don’t show symptoms for years. It can be detected through a blood or saliva test.9, 10

Trichomoniasis: This parasitic infection can cause itching, burning, redness, or unusual discharge that may smell “fishy.” It’s usually identified with a vaginal swab or urinalysis.9, 11
