– Gonorrhea: This bacterial infection often doesn’t have symptoms. But when it does, you might experience painful urination, abnormal discharge, or bleeding between periods. We usually test for it with a urinalysis or vaginal swab.3, 4
– Chlamydia: Another bacterial infection that’s often silent.5 Symptoms can include pain during sex, discharge, or burning during urination. It’s also tested with a urine sample or swab of your vagina, throat, or rectum.6
– Syphilis: This bacterial infection can show up as sores on your genitals, rectum, or mouth. Later stages can cause rashes, organ damage, and other serious health issues. It’s typically checked with a blood test.7, 8
– HIV: This virus affects your immune system and can lead to AIDS if untreated. Early symptoms might resemble the flu, but many people don’t show symptoms for years. It can be detected through a blood or saliva test.9, 10
