Dear Friend,

I want you to know that you’re not alone, and your feelings are completely valid here at ThriVe+, a place for women. Facing an unplanned pregnancy can be overwhelming. It’s okay to have deep fears and concerns.

I’m here as a friend and an advocate with EmpowerHer Advocacy, a mission of ThriVe+ to empower you. This unexpected turn in your life doesn’t mean your dreams are shattered. In fact, your future can still be incredibly bright. We believe in you. Even if you can’t see a way through this right now, it will get better.

10. What if I choose adoption? How do I cope with that decision?

Choosing adoption is a valid decision, and ThriVe+ is here to provide guidance and emotional support throughout the process. We can connect you with resources to help you understand and cope with the emotions that may arise, ensuring that you have a strong support system in place.

Since we’re a place for women, we believe in women making decisions that feel authentic to them. For you, that means understanding the options available to you. You should think about what aligns best with your values, goals, and circumstances. Information is powerful. So, let’s talk about what your options are.

Understanding Your Options:

1. Abortion

If you’re considering abortion, we understand. It’s super important to learn about the different types of procedures, risks, and aftercare. Not just so you are informed, but to protect your health. If you have an ectopic pregnancy (where the fetus is developing outside of the uterus), an abortion pill or medical abortion could be harmful to your health. Please have an ultrasound before pursuing abortion to keep you safe.

The expert medical staff at ThriVe+ can explain your options. You should know all the facts. We only provide modern and medically accurate information. We’re not here to sway you in any direction. It’s all about you. Schedule your no-cost pre-abortion screening with us when you’re ready to explore your options and talk about things.

2. Adoption

Adoption is an option that allows you to give your child the opportunity for a life with a family who is ready to provide love and support. ThriVe+, a place for women, can explain the different types of adoption.

If you’re worried about being able to provide for a child financially, or you feel like you’re just not ready to care for a baby, this option could be a comfort to you. We can connect you with agencies and resources to help you make the best decision for both you and your baby. If you choose to pursue adoption, you’ll stay in control the whole time. Nothing is set in stone. You have time.

3. Parenting

If you’re thinking about parenting, we can give you resources on parenting classes, financial assistance, and community support. There’s really tons of support and connections. A lot of women we talk to are surprised to learn about all the help that’s out there. We are here to assist you in exploring the practical aspects of parenting but also help you create a plan. And again, you can take your time to make the right decision for you.

Maybe you think you might want to choose parenting, but you’re not sure. ThriVe+ is a place for women, and we’ll always support you with information and empathy. Take time to talk to other parents you know. Think about what you want your future to look like. You should be able to make your own decisions about your future.

Making an Authentic Decision:

1. Reflect on Your Values

Write down your values and beliefs. What is important to you? You should figure out what your values are – your decision should feel authentic and true to who you are. No one but you can decide what to do with your pregnancy. So, your choice should reflect who you are.

2. Evaluate Your Goals

Think about your future goals and aspirations. How do the options align with your long-term plans? Relationships? Do you see yourself having a family? Graduating high school or college? Believe it or not, you don’t have to choose one or the other. Could your plans be changed a little to accommodate what you want? ThriVe+ can provide resources to help you explore how each choice might impact your goals.

3. Find Support and Information

It’s helpful to find a place for women —a safe place. Talk to healthcare professionals, counselors, and those you trust. Get info and seek guidance so you can make an authentic decision. Fact-check your sources to make sure they’re reliable. Learn more about finding accurate info when you’re looking for support. Talk to real women who have gone through similar things

At ThriVe+, we come from all walks of life and experiences. Lots of us are like open books and are open to sharing our stories. Hearing how someone else overcame an unplanned pregnancy may help you feel better and make your choice.

4. Study Your Own Life

Think about your current circumstances, including your relationships, financial situation, and emotional well-being. ThriVe+, a place for women, can help you explore how each option may fit into your unique circumstances.

5. Take Your Time

This is a big choice. You’ll need time and reflection. Take the time you need to make a decision that feels right for you. We have your back. Remember, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The decision is only yours. We’re here to provide information, support, and a listening ear. Even though this is a big decision, we believe that you’re totally qualified to make it. Your future is still bright, and we are here to help you make an authentic decision that aligns with your values and dreams.

Advocating for Yourself

Navigating an unplanned pregnancy can bring up a whirlwind of emotions. Prioritize your mental and emotional well-being during this time. Understanding and processing your feelings is essential. We want you to be able to move forward with confidence and strength.

Part of advocating for yourself is finding company in a place for women. A place you feel safe and heard. At ThriVe+, we’ll always validate your emotions.

Understanding Your Emotions

It’s completely normal to experience a range of emotions, including fear, confusion, and even joy. Take the time to acknowledge and accept these feelings without judgment. Your emotions are valid. Allow yourself to feel them. It’s an important step towards self-discovery, and eventually making your decision.

Self-Care for Emotional Well-Being

Self-care plays a pivotal role in maintaining your emotional health. Take moments for yourself. Do activities that bring you comfort. Surround yourself with positive people. Learn more about finding safe people and building your “village.” Whether it’s taking a walk, practicing mindfulness, or doing one of your hobbies, these small acts of self-care can make a big difference in how you navigate this.

Prioritizing Mental Health

Your mental health is just as important as your physical well-being. There are plenty of women who feel anxiety, stress, or sadness when they discover that they’re pregnant. It’s important to find supportive friends, a counselor, or caring people at  a place for women (like ThriVe+)  who are safe and understanding. Taking this step is a proactive way to prioritize your mental health. You’ll gain the tools to cope with the challenges that may arise.

Creating a Mental Health Routine

Add activities that promote mental well-being into your daily routine. This might include practicing gratitude, journaling your thoughts and feelings, or doing hobbies that bring you a sense of peace. Lots of people find exercise helpful for their mental health, or meditating. If you establish a routine, it can make your day feel more stable.
